April 18: A Child Is A Poem

by allisonkujiraoka

A child is a poem

with her own lexicon

gleeful shrieks, jumbled cries

an old familiar love song.

A child is a poem

a silent plea with big blue eyes

a mischievous look askance

chased back with a smile.

A child is a poem

just read between the lines

a certain rhythm is unfolding

bursting forth in playful rhymes.

A child is a poem

she is asking to be read

she desires to be known

and by all interpreted.

A child is a poem

a living, breathing wonder

serving equal parts tenderness,

equal parts thunder.
