April 12: A Rhyming Rut

I’ve got into a rhyming rut

The problem?  I’ll tell you what:

I can’t stop pairing vowels and diphthongs

to make these lines read like songs.

A tune to which the ear inclines

Trips off the tongue like lullabies

Add some rhythm, the beat becomes incessant

Two adjoining lines share an ending consonant

Although I worry it feels forced, sounds trite

I’m still compelled to end this poem just right.
